Baked chicken wings are finger-lickin’ good! I’m baking these wings, not deep frying so it keeps them on the healthier side, but doesn’t compromise taste. My husband loves these crispy baked wings any day of the week, so don’t think of this recipe as a game day food or party snack. These hot wings dipped in cool ranch with a side of crispy celery are perfect for any occasion! So let me walk you through how to make this easy chicken wings recipe.
What you need to make baked chicken wings:
Chicken Wings & Drumettes– You will need 1 1/2 pounds- 2 pounds of wings. The packaging varies from store to store. Some brands are labeled party wings. Others are a combination of wings and drumettes. There also are extra large wings. It really just depends on what your personal taste and preference are. I like to get the combo pack, but any kind is good.
Spices/Seasoning– You will need 1/2 teaspoon of onion powder, 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder, 1/2 teaspoon of paprika, 1 1/2 teaspoon of kosher salt, and 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper. When measuring out the spices it doesn’t have to be exact. You can also get creative and try out different flavors. The combination of seasoning in this recipe is for a classic wing taste.
Frank’s Red Hot Buffalo Wing Sauce– You will need about 1/4 -1/2 cups of Buffalo Wing Sauce. This is not to be mistaken for Frank’s hot sauce. Make sure the label says Buffalo. See the photo! This is my personal favorite wing sauce, but if you have another brand that you prefer then by all means go for it.
Celery Sticks & Carrot Sticks– These veggies are optional but a really nice compliment to the spicy wings. I like to cut the celery into thirds and to make it super easy I buy the baby organic carrots that are already cut.
Ranch dressing or Blue Cheese Dressing– Either of these is optional, but I don’t know anyone who doesn’t like a little ranch or blue cheese on the side of their buffalo wings. Feel free to pick up your favorite bottle of dressing or consider making my homemade ranch dressing.
How to make crispy baked chicken wings:
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. I like to bake my wings at a higher temperature because I have found the chicken skin to crisp up better.
Prep
First, unwrap the chicken wings and pat them dry using paper towels. Dry chicken will help achieve crispy skin in the oven. Once you have patted them dry, dump the chicken into a large mixing bowl.
Season
Next, add all the spices to a small bowl and stir with a fork to combine. After that, pour the spice blend over the chicken using your hands, and toss the chicken with the spices until the chicken is evenly coated on all sides.
Bake
Line a sheet pan with parchment paper or aluminum foil. Place wings in a single layer on the baking sheet, skin side down. Avoid crowding the pan. If you need to use 2 baking sheets then please do. Overcrowding the pan will interfere with the crisping process. Bake the wings for 50-60 minutes until crispy and golden brown. You may need more or less time depending on the size of the wings.
Remove from the oven and carefully transfer the crispy wings to a large bowl. Pour the wing sauce over the chicken and toss to evenly coat the wings. Add more or less sauce depending on your preference.
Pour them onto a platter with some cut celery and carrots. Serve with cool ranch dressing on the side. For the best results serve wings hot.
Super Bowl Sunday is just around the corner and with a big game comes a lot of tasty appetizers. So be sure to add these delicious wings to your table of appetizers and snacks. Once your guests bite into these crispy chicken wings you might have a hard time getting them to eat anything else. Soon enough you’ll be known to have the best wing recipe in town! I hope you try this baked wing recipe soon and let me know in the comment section how you liked them.
