Cottage Cheese Toast with Apples is made with simple ingredients you might already have. This recipe came to me when trying to come up with new things to have for breakfast that were still light, but filling. I turned to cottage cheese for its high value in protein. Spread that on a piece of toast with some sliced apples and a drizzle of honey and you have a complete meal! This toast has the creaminess from the cottage cheese the tartness from the apples and the sweetness from the honey. Making it a very satisfying meal.
Here’s what you need to make this cottage cheese toast recipe:
Toast- Any type of bread will work, I recommend using sourdough bread. It’s a sturdy bread and when toasted it holds up very well and doesn’t get soggy. Plus the pieces are usually larger than the standard-size wheat or white bread.
Cottage Cheese- 1/4 cup – 1/2 cup cottage cheese. I highly recommend the Good Culture Cottage Cheese brand. This is my favorite cottage cheese! I find it to be a lot smoother than other brands and not as watery. Good Culture also doesn’t contain any thickeners or other artificial ingredients. They have an organic option and Lactose-free as well. So if those things matter to you they’ve got it! I understand that a lot of people don’t like the texture of cottage cheese so to my cottage cheese haters, you could swap out the cottage cheese and use plain Greek yogurt.

Why cottage cheese is a good choice?
Protein content! In a half-cup serving, there are 14 grams of protein. Compared to one egg having 6.3 grams of protein. Having cottage cheese in the morning makes for a healthy meal and a high protein breakfast.

Apple- 1/2 of a small apple, thinly sliced. I like to buy the teeny apples found at my local grocery store, I usually get mine from Trader Joe’s or Ralph’s. The variety varies, but I love the Honeycrisp apples. They are not super sweet and work well with the honey. I also like a granny smith for its tartness. So it just depends on your mood or preference when selecting an apple.
Honey- Drizzle over the top of the apple. If you don’t like honey another sweet option you could try would be maple syrup.
Other fresh fruit options- Fresh berries, like strawberries or raspberries would be delicious.
Here’s how to make this simple recipe:
Begin by toasting the sourdough bread until it’s golden brown. While the bread is toasting, slice your apple. Cut thin slices of a small apple. You could also cut into small bite-size pieces if you prefer.
Once the bread is toasted, spread the cottage cheese in an even layer over the slice of toast. Next, add the sliced apples to the top of the cottage cheese. If you want a lot of apple you will have to over-lap the pieces to fit more.
Lastly, drizzle the honey over the top of the apples. That’s it! It really is that easy. This sweet cottage cheese toast is delicious and perfect for an easy breakfast or snack.

Cottage Cheese Toast with Apples
Cottage Cheese Toast is my spin on the classic avocado toast. Toasted sourdough topped with creamy cottage cheese, tart sliced apples and drizzle of sweet honey for the perfect breakfast, lunch, or snack.
Ingredients
- 1 large slice of sourdough bread, toasted
- 1/4-1/2 cup cottage cheese
- 1/2 small apple, thinly sliced
- 1 tsp Honey, for drizzle
Instructions
- Toast sourdough bread until golden brown
- While bread is toasting slice the apple. I like to slice it pretty thin so it's easy to bite into. You could also cut it into a small dice or bites so it's easier to eat.
- After removing bread from toaster, spread cottage cheese across the top. Depending on how big your bread is will determine how much cottage cheese fits on top.
- After the cottage cheese is spread evenly, top with sliced apples.
- Drizzle honey over the top of the apples. Add as much or little as you like. This is a personal preference.
